Curated by Creative Entrepreneurs, this three-part course will cover several essential aspects of setting up a creative business: how to network effectively, legal basics, and finance. Through seminar discussions led by experts and hands-on activities, participants will learn the skills and knowledge they need to begin to turn their creative ideas into business reality.

Section One: How to Network

Gain an overview of networking, before learning practical techniques to make new connections and cultivate long-term collaborations.

This session is led by Carolyn Dailey, Founder of Creative Entrepreneurs.

Section Two: Legal Basics for Creative Startups

Learn the most important legal basics, from setting up a company to hiring people and protecting your IP.

This session is led by Malcolm Murray, Partner and Head of Corporate at legal experts Lee & Thompson.

Section Three: Financial Basics for Creative Start-Ups

A crash-course into accounting and tax basics and understanding effective fundraising.

This session is led by chartered accountant Dave Morrison, Partner at Nyman Libson Paul, and Shaun Beaney of the Corporate Finance Faculty of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Speakers

Carolyn Dailey

Carolyn is the founder of Creative Entrepreneurs, a digital and events platform empowering creative people to turn their ideas into successful businesses. Previously she was MD at Time Warner International London, working with divisions HBO, Warner Bros and Time Inc., originally joining the company with CNN.

Malcolm Murray

Malcom is a Partner and Head of Corporate at Lee & Thompson and is one of the UK’s leading legal experts advising individuals and businesses across the creative sector. Malcolm advises on all types of corporate and commercial arrangements including startups, M&A and investments.

Dave Morrison

Both a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor, Dave has extensive experience advising businesses across the creative industries. Before joining Nyman Libson Paul in the late 1990s, Dave was a tax manager at two large firms before spending a number of years running his own (MOBO nominated) DJ, Club and Concert business.
