Future Fossil: Workshop with Something & Son and Yesenia Thibault-Picazo
A 75% drop in insects and 90% fall in our wild meadows are just two examples of why we need to find creative solutions for living with nature and not against it. How can we create surfaces and structures that allow nature to grow within our urban environments?
Drawing on current research and live projects, this workshop will introduce you to new techniques that embed nature into the material and form of man-made objects. Over the course of the session, you will create your own materials using local plants, recycled matter and waste, before designing your own living architectural models.
Something & Son is a collaborative and activist led collective working across art, design and architecture creating diverse work that is socially and environmentally driven. Their work tours galleries and art festivals, though the majority of work engages in real-life public projects in abandoned buildings or on the street.
Yesenia Thibault-Picazo defines herself as a ‘Material Teller’. Her practice sits at the junction between craft practices and environmental concerns. Thibault-Picazo suggests what mined materials might be used by our descendants, in the far future.
