Day 2: Making - Spend the day at Reach Out Maker Space learning about ways of making and respond to the brief.
Day 3: Using - Hear about rigorous user testing and test your own design in the Design Museum
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses use innovative ideas from the world of design and the inspiring context of the Museum to address themes that matter to educators. You will:
Hear from inspiring designers about their work in industry
Work to create your own brief, respond to it using rapid prototyping and test it with potential users
Receive expert advice on using making tools at Imperial College's Reach Out maker space
Hear from teachers with innovative and exciting school practice
Learn about the content of the Design Museum's collection and hear the design stories behind the Museum
Explore approaches to problem-solving that can translate into innovative teaching and learning methodologies in your professional context
Both primary and secondary teachers across Design and Technology and Art and Design.
All levels of expertise and specialism are welcome.
Henry is the Creative lead, design management and business strategy at Future Product. He will be leading the three days of content, taking teachers on a journey through design briefs, making and testing with users. Henry has worked with charity Solar Aid to create affordable, Solar Powered LED lighting for countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
Anna is the designer and mastermind behind the Gumdrop bin and gumtech material, which uses used chewing gum to create a brand new material for use in a range of products.
Kate is a physicist who helped set up and run Imperial College's Reach out Maker space in White City. She will be leading the day of making and teaching use of the equipment on hand.
Oliver graduated from Central Saint Martins and studied an Msc in Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales. He will talking on the market research carried out by Solar Aid with thousands of families in sub-Saharan Africa.
Gurpal is learning leader for DT at seven kings high school. He will talking about teaching in the current financial climate.
